What: |
Five Family Resource Centers and WSU Extension partnered to bring families and neighbors (primarily low income) together to learn ways to increase physical activity and plan and prepare healthy meals. This series of meetings included cooking demonstrations, family meal purchasing, preparing healthy meals, inexpensive ways to increase physical activity, goal setting, writing plans to continue using skills that had been learned in the sessions and celebrations. |
Result: |
Families individuals are making better food choices, eating together more often and exercising more. Walking groups have formed and participants have volunteered to continue the cooking classes. More than 250 unduplicated individuals, mostly families with children, participated in this program. |
